For many of us, it’s important that Aikido continue to be relevant as a martial art as well as remain true to the philosophy of Aikido as expressed by the founder, Morihei Ueshiba.  That means that we must be willing to continually reconsider how we approach our practice.

Nishio shared an expansive and continually evolving vision for the future of Aikido.  His vision and technical genius produced a new and highly integrated approach to Aikido based on the correct use of the Japanese sword and also containing key elements of jodo, judo and karate.

Shoji Nishio was a student of Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba. Nishio Sensei was a highly regarded martial art master in numerous disciplines and a great innovator in Aikido. His goal was to advance Aikido into the future, to ensure aikido’s place as an effective and technically sound martial art that adheres to the foundations of Japanese bushido as well as the philosophical vision of the founder.

Nishikaze Aikido Society of America is the official organization of the Nishio method of Aikido in the United States. Nishikaze was established by Koji Yoshida, Shihan, Shoji Nishio’s personally appointed successor and is affiliated with Aikikai Foundation Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan.  Aikido Dan level (black belt) ranking through Nishikaze is through the Aikikai (Aikido World Headquarters), Tokyo Japan.  NASA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity educational corporation.
